Romance is around every corner in this city, with fairytale-like architecture and gorgeous views to admire whichever way you turn. If you’re looking to avoid the more cliché European destinations, Lisbon stands up as a beautiful alternative for you and your partner to commit your futures to one another.
You will find plenty of special spots across the city perfect for taking the plunge. But we’ve narrowed it down to the top three most romantic places in the Lisbon region to help inspire your Portuguese proposal.
Affectionately known as ‘the edge of the world’ due to its geographical location, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more romantic place to profess your love to one another. Cabo da Roca is the westernmost point of Portugal and Europe, and with the cliffs towering 150m above sea level, you’ll be treated to unobstructed views of the Atlantic horizon and the surrounding Sintra area. If her heart’s not racing as you lurch precariously above the crashing Atlantic waves, then it certainly will be as you descend onto one knee and reveal the ring.
If you are feeling adventurous, take on one of the local walking trails which features Cabo da Roca as a point of interest and take a moment’s respite there, before hopefully completing the walk as a newly-engaged couple. There aren’t many walks you will set off single and return with a fiancée!
Belém Tower is one of the most significant historical sites in the Lisbon region, and is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set against the famous Tagus River, this special spot truly encapsulates the beauty of Portugal’s capital city.
If you’re looking to pop the question inside the tower, be warned that in peak season this is a very popular attraction, and with only 150 people allowed in at the time, you can expect a long queue. Nothing like a long wait to settle your nerves!
Fortunately, if you don’t fancy tackling the queues, the beauty of the tower can be appreciated from the outside. Decorated with Manueline stone carvings, this iconic emblem of the city will provide the perfect backdrop for your memorable proposal snaps.
Admire the stunning architecture and fairytale feel of Pena Palace, which sits in the Parque de Pena forest. The palace itself sits atop a hill almost 500m high, which can be scaled by foot, but you can also take the easier route and catch a bus from the nearby train station. With plenty of intricately decorated staterooms to explore inside the palace, you won’t be short of dreamy spots to get down on one knee and make your partner feel like they’re living their own fairytale.
It is worth noting that photography is generally frowned upon inside the palace walls, so if you want to capture the moment on camera, it might be better to ask the all-important question at one of the surrounding viewpoints.
Being one of the most popular tourist attractions in the entire country, expect to be battling through hoards of fellow visitors in and around the palace. If you’re dreaming of a private and intimate proposal, then a trip to Pena might not be the best bet, unless you’re happy to travel at off-peak times throughout the year.

]]>Engagement rings don’t come cheap either, with the average couple spending $3,756 on their engagement ring in 2020. Understandably, you will want to invest your money carefully, choosing a ring that your partner will fall in love with. But how can you ensure they will be happy with your choice?
Here’s three ways you can put your mind at ease and all but guarantee you are making the right choice.
Understandably, this approach won’t be for everyone, with lots of couples desperate to keep the surprise until the moment comes. But, it’s not uncommon for couples to shop for engagement rings together. In fact, 70% of rings are bought with some level of involvement from the partner – there really is no better way to ensure they will be happy with the end product.
Either browse online, or take a trip to your local jewelry shop to find out just what your partner is looking for from their dream engagement ring. You can also use the expertise of a jeweler who will ask you questions to get to know your preferences, and so can help you both to better understand your options.
If you can trust their nearest and dearest to keep a secret, then use their expertise to find out what they think your partner would like best. Chances are they will have spoken about their dream engagement ring at some point, or even dropped hints when discussing each others’ rings. Even if they haven’t, your partner’s family and friends should certainly have an understanding of what they would want, or at least what they definitely wouldn’t want.
To get an even better insight, ask one of their friends to take them window shopping for rings and feed back to you. Use this information to inform your search for your own ring. Even small details like their favorite metal color, or preferred engagement ring setting can all be helpful in guiding you to the ring of your partner’s dreams.
If you’re completely in the dark when it comes to ideas, but want to keep up the surprise from even their family and friends, start by looking at your partner’s existing collection of jewelry. Take note of the styles and designs that they’ve picked out for themselves, and take this information to a jeweler who will be able to build up a pretty good picture of which engagement ring style would suit them best.
Look out for trends such as their preferred color scheme – is their collection predominantly gold or silver? If they have any diamond jewelry, assess whether they are more concerned with the size of the diamond or the quality, as this will help you to narrow down your search from the wide range of diamond rings available on the market.

How sweet is that? Now, this is no ordinary marriage proposal. As you know, the world is so different during these quarantined times – giving elaborate proposes many obstacles. The Yes Girls wanted to go above and beyond to make sure this couple had a perfect proposal!
Jason knew he wanted to make this extra special for Mariko no matter what, so he teamed up with The Yes Girls to make it happen. Together, we were able to create a quarantined proposal in Napa for the books! The Yes Girls worked with the winery to set up a beautiful setting on the grounds – so the couple had the entire winery completely to themselves! This also kept the couple and staff safe with social distancing. Typically renting an entire winery wouldn’t be feasible but to make lemonade out of lemons during COVID 19, the amazing staff we’ve worked with for 10 years made it happen. TALK ABOUT DREAMY! A table set for two was draped in white and light pink fabric with romantic flowers and tall gold candles to embody a modern-day princess feel. A snow globe with a castle inside sits on the table with a fairy tale book! The cover reads – Once Upon A Time… and inside is the couple’s story with custom drawings. What a perfect way to proposal despite a gloomy time – such a creative and romantic win for a beautiful couple!

Have you bought the ring? If so, congrats! We are so excited and happy for the adventure that lies ahead of you. Quick question - did your jeweler give you a lovely ring box, but its giant? Well, not only do we have a solution for you, but we also can tell you why a small ring box is underrated!
1. They Can Be Pretty Too - Have you seen our sleek, thin ring box? It's the perfect modern and simple ring box for your brand new bling. Why have a big, over the top box that distracts from the main attraction. Keep it simple, small and slick.
2. They Are Easy To Hide - This is such a big one! Why ruin your surprise proposal by keep that huge ring box in your back pocket? She will see it and you will be so bummed that your surprise was busted. Our small ring box will keep your proposal a surprise and your heart extra happy.
3. It Fits In A Box Sock - Yes! Maybe the best detail there is. Box Sock is the sock with a pocket to hide your ring box - brilliant, right? It is safe, secure and full of possibilities. She will never find or see the shape of a ring box safely hidden in the pocket of your socks. It is perfect!

You can create the perfect charcuterie board, pick up some great mac and cheese and chicken from your local grocery store, make some pasta salad or just keep it really simple with dips. Don't forget to bring cups and her favorite drink like beer, wine or a little cocktail. Complete with cozy blankets, candles and some tunes - you have such a romantic date!
2. Build A Fort - Awaken that inner child and build yourself an awesome fort in the house. You can create your fort in front of the TV to watch a movie or in the living room to spend some time together. Fill the fort with LED candles or cover it with twinkle lights from your already stored Christmas decor. Decorate with pillows, wine glasses and wine or even a champagne bucket filled with bubbly. I know I would be so stoked to find a fort in my living room after a long day at work!
3. An Escape Room - Get active together using those noodles! Spend the evening solving puzzles and laughing off your mistakes with an escape room near you. They are popping up in every city so finally put it on the books for your Valentine's Day. They might even have a Valentine's themed escape room so check your local listings!
